Gatlinburg Gives Back: Help for Victims of Hurricane Harvey Contrary to our deepest wishes, we cannot control the destructive properties of nature. A fairly recent example of just how destructive and devastating nature can be is Hurricane Harvey. A Category Four Hurricane, the storm ravaged Southeast Texas and the surrounding areas from August 25, 2017 to August 29, 2017.

Often after our darkest hours, we rise to the occasion and provide aid to individuals who need aid the most, and donors, volunteers, and organizers from Sevier County, Tennessee and elsewhere are the perfect example of us doing just that. We remember just how bad things were after the wildfires, so of course we want to give back to all those who helped us through, too.

What should you send?

The individuals and organizations who are proudly providing help to Hurricane Harvey victims are asking us to donate a wide variety of things. The various requested donations include time and energy, as we can volunteer to fulfill whichever capacity that is necessary. The various requested donations also include:

  • New socks
  • Mops
  • Brooms
  • Cleaning materials, such as Bleach and wipes
  • Diapers
  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • Hygiene materials
  • Sheets
  • Major-duty gloves
  • Ventilator masks
  • Easy meals
  • Drinks, such as water, Gatorade, and Powerade
  • Can openers
  • Plastic totes
  • Foldable clotheslines
  • Animal kennels
  • Money
  • Baby food
  • Animal food
  • Animal fencing
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Cream designed to combat fungi

What should you not send?

The people and organizations who are helping Hurricane Harvey victims are not asking for everything to be donated. For example, they are asking people to not send any clothes, save for new socks, undergarments, and sandals for all ages, because that’s not what Hurricane Harvey victims necessarily need right now. In addition, if you donate water and other drinks, the relief workers request that the drinks are in pallets, as pallets are likely easier to load, transport, and distribute than individual water, Gatorade, and Powerade bottles.

Who is involved in helping Hurricane Harvey victims?

A wide myriad of people and organizations are providing help to those individuals whose lives have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The various people and organizations helping Hurricane Harvey victims include:

We cannot control nature, but when nature strikes destructively, we often rise up and help our fellow humans whose lives have been impacted by the destruction. As stated previously, East Tennesseans sending donations to Texans is a great example, and you can help in a variety of ways. Hopefully, we continue to rise to the occasion and help those individuals whose lives are being impacted by Hurricane Irma and Tropical Storm Jose, too.
